Dear friends,

Here are some highlights to start the week:

  • Safe, affordable, high-quality child care is essential to any reopening plan and economic recovery. We have sent an advocacy letter with this message to the state’s Reopening Advisory Board. Thanks to the 38 organizations that signed on, spanning business, philanthropy, direct service, and advocacy. You can visit the Board’s webpage and take their survey - be sure to mention child care and tell your story.

  • We have initial results from our family survey. To-date we have nearly 2,000 responses, from all regions of the state. COVID-19 has altered everyone’s child care arrangements. Most parents are planning to return to their former child care provider upon re-opening, however 88% of parents are hesitant to return to child care due to health concerns. The survey will stay open for the next few weeks. Please share the survey in English: Family Perspective: Child Care in Massachusetts, and  Spanish: Perspectiva Familiar: Cuidado de Niños en Massachusetts

  • Join us on Wednesday, May 13 for our Advocacy 101 webinar. We will be sharing updates on the state budget for fiscal year 2021, featuring special guest Colin Jones from Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center. Register here.

  • Congress continues to work on the next stimulus bill. Senator Warren and Congresswoman Clark are both proposing bailouts for child care, but more support is needed. Call your U.S. Senators and Congressperson to let them know you support child care funding in the next stimulus, and tell your story.

Don’t forget to check out our Eye on Early Education blog for more COVID-19 updates and advocacy opportunities.

Updates from the Department of Early Education, technical assistance links, PPE vendors and more are all available on our website.

Please let us know if you need additional information.

Thank you for all you are doing to support children and families.
